Chitau Pitha (ଚିତଉ ବିଠା) is a special pitha, or pancake, offered to Lord Jagannath on Chitalagi Amavasya. Chita is a golden ornament put on the lalat (forehead) of Lord Jagannatha, Lord Balabhadra, and Devi Subhadra. On the day of Snana Purnima, or Snana Jatra, the chita of three idols is removed before their bath.
On this day of Shravana Amavasya, those chitas are put on the foreheads of three idols. Apart from that, Chitau pitha is offered to snails so they won't bite any individuals.
