Sabitri Brata is considered to be the most important festival observed by married women in Odisha. Married women do fasting on this for their husband's long life. They offer different types of fruits to the lord. This festival or the fasting is based on the legends of Sahabitri who saved her husband from Yamraj, the death of God.
On that day, she did fasting for her husband and ate only the fruits available in that Jungle. So, the women who do this Osha also eat fruits only. That's why the fruit market has a big demand for this day. One of our friend Ganeswar Nayak sir had shared a photograph of a local market, where a small fruit seller is selling a variety of fruits for the Sabitri Osha.
