Garbhana Sankranti - ଗର୍ଭଣା ସଂକ୍ରାନ୍ତି

In Odisha, the festivals are celebrating with respect to season, religion, and social issues. In those festivals, more are celebrating depending on cultivation.

Garbhana Sankranti (Odia: ଗର୍ଭଣା ସଂକ୍ରାନ୍ତି) is one form those celebrating on the Tula Sankranti (In the month of October, the 1st day of the 7th month according to Odia Callender).

The word Garbha is referring to the embryo (ଭୃଣ). Till this Sankranti, Impregnated with the ears of corn; having the ears of corn still inside it.

Dhana Penda - Peddy Field

According to some belief, people worship the branches of the Grabhana tree (ଗର୍ଭଣା ଗଛର ଡାଳ) and plant them in the paddy fields to get a good harvest. This tree is called as Ankranti tress (ଅଙ୍କରାନ୍ତି ଗଛ) in some places. This tree has some specific medicinal power. The farmers observe this with great faith.

The owner or the elder of a family worship the branches of this tree in the morning as per the ritual and plant in the field and prays for a good harvest. There is a line in Odia for this Sankranti. "-ଆଗେ ବୁଣୁ ପଛେ ବୁଣୁ, ଗର୍ଭଣାକୁ ଟୁଣୁଟୁଣୁ ।"


ଗର୍ଭଣା ସଂକ୍ରାନ୍ତିରେ କ୍ଷେତରେ ପୋତାହେବା ପୂର୍ବରୁ ଘରେ ପୂଜା କରାଯାଏ ।
